THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF TRAVEL

6/11/2014

While I’ve been posting for weeks and weeks about our awesome trip to the Holy Land, Jimmy and I have been juggling a good bit of family related travel; just the usual, as in weddings, . . .

Sarah and Chris' wedding was the first of three family weddings this summer.
. . . graduations,

and a funeral.  Actually, no travel for me for this particular event with the exception of a cross-town jaunt to my daughter’s home; I hung out for the weekend with the youngest of the grandkids while mommy and daddy attended the funeral.

Jimmy and I even went our separate ways in the midst of all the family fun; he spent the last week in Reno gutting and rebuilding a kitchen with his son Steve.  No way would I even consider encroaching on their time together.

Thankfully Jimmy arrives home later tonight.  Twenty-three different Ikea boxes are scheduled for delivery this Friday at my son’s new Chicago residence on the 42nd floor of his Wacker Drive high-rise apartment building.   I’ve assured Jimmy he will not be encroaching on my time with Ryan. Jimmy so deserves some down time. Now I just have to convince him this latest activity will feel therapeutic in comparison.  I did promise him we’d be down on the floor unpacking all 23 boxes.

This is the bare bones of Ryan's new dream digs.
If you’ve never had the pleasure of going the Ikea route when it comes to home furnishings, suffice it to say, I think giving birth requires less labor than does the construction of these life-size Swedish tinker toys.  Besides, my creations all came with ten fingers and ten toes.  My brain has a tough time registering the number of appendages (nuts, bolts, washers, and screws) necessary to suggest a complete Ikea package.   In this case, the sum of the parts is always greater than the whole.

I can’t count the number of blessings between my three kids and Jimmy’s two, much less the grandkids, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, cats and dogs between us. It's called family.

Together Jimmy and I have more than our fair share of life's blessings. I wouldn’t trade those blessings for the world.  But you can bet we’ll travel the world every chance we get. It's that or lose a few screws!

You're so right Louis Armstrong; it's truly a wonderful world.

You two are blessed! Are you sure Jim can resist the chance to give his advice on Ryan's new digs?

I picked him up from the airport and treated him to dinner, which went a long way in securing an agreement when it came to Friday's project.

Been there, done that! But it's all worth it and appreciated by the kids. Who did you say bought dinner?????? LOL

Once a parent, always a parent. It's a lifelong commitment.
