LAKE GENEVA, WISCONSIN: WHERE THE GIRLS ARE!

7/17/2012

Once a year, whether we need it or not (yeah, right!), we meet at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin to get away from it all.  This is the house that sits near the lake that sleeps four girls (well, we feel like girls again) who meet to make sense of it all.

Here's Vikki's digs! I'm green with envy, which fortunately matches her decor.
Who am I kidding?! It's all about the great escape!

Really, we're just waiting at the bar until a table opens up. This is life at Lake Geneva courtesy restaurant Mars.
We (me and friends Vikki, Laurie and Mary Jane ) talk and walk and gawk (to borrow a Lake Geneva phrase) for two or three days.  Do people really live in those mansions along Geneva Lake (the town is Lake Geneva, the lake is Geneva Lake). I never see kids playing, dogs pooping, home owners mowing.

What did I tell you! No kids, no dogs, no poop, no one mowing at Wadsworth Hall, now the Driehaus Estate.
That's okay, because we don’t cook, we don’t clean and we don’t tell either (what happens in Lake Geneva stays in Lake Geneva). We're all quite the lazy bunch in our vacation homes along the lake.  By definition, I think that's what a vacation/escape is all about.

We don’t come for the adventure either (fishing, boating, swimming, skiing or the ghosts; yes, there are a few ghosts!), unless catching the rays of the sun dancing on the water at the end of the day qualifies.

Beneath these waters is a 50's era cabin cruiser, a Volkswagen and a Nash.
We get more than our share of excitement just finding a bargain while shopping or

Oh good, maybe they'll have some bargains on cat food also.

from the dock.

Maybe a little too much sun while they worked on the lettering for this sign.
We take the rest and relaxation (or is it reminisce and reconnect) in R&R very seriously

Here's to you, girl friend!
because life is way too serious outside these parts.

All in all, life is good!

It never gets this muggy in Lake Geneva.
But friends who sympathize, empathize and don’t criticize (and have a home on Lake Geneva):  PRICELESS!

You'd think I'd have more class than Vikki after all those years of teaching. Nope. Nada. Zilch.

Insider tips for your own Lake Geneva Girls’ Getaway:

Vikki is the hostess with the mostess, but association rules and regulations prohibit her from renting her house to paying guests.  Vikki sends her regrets.  Fortunately, accommodations in the area are plentiful if you don’t have friends in high places. Lake Geneva’s official
website has it all (including a July giveaway as we speak), which is no surprise given Lake Geneva has it all too.

Be sure to try the footpath around the lake (all 21 miles if you’re so inclined). It’s a public walkway with a spectacular view of the fabulous estates and comfy homes, some just a stone's throw away (but I wouldn't go there; in this neck of the woods, many landowners are also hunters).  You can pick up the path just west of the Riviera Dock.
