He’d certainly been the star the day our neighbor’s tiny frame house caught fire.
I don’t remember much, but I do remember being part of the crowd gathering as the flames scorched the early evening sky and thick smoke billowed like storm clouds; I remember my father running into that fiery hole and coming back out with a child in his arms.
Every kid should be so lucky to believe their father is a hero!
My father hasn’t always been present in my life; family life can and often does get messy. And we certainly don’t always see eye to eye on things. Fortunately we haven’t allowed the past to stand in the way of the present.
What do you give a 90-year-old man you call Dad? I give my time and undivided attention, while we still have it to share. It’s currently hotter than h-e-double hockey sticks (YEAH, CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS – 2015 Stanley Cup Champions!) in central Florida where I’ve been spending time with my father for the last week. Dad sometimes speculates, given the current temps, that the good lord may be preparing him for the next leg of his journey.
To which I usually say, “Psssssh!”
I also say, “Happy Father’s Day!” to those who fit the bill, be it father or father figure – uncle, brother, stepfather, grandfather or family friend; and offer a prayer for those fathers who will be missed on this special day.
And now, let’s get to those Fun Fotos!
