That’s right. No more chocolate; no more wine; no butter, no tree nuts, no lettuce, no potatoes, no dairy, no quinoa. Yes, I’m a freak!
Do you have any idea how good quinoa is for you? Quinoa is the perfect grain, full of protein, B-vitamins, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc. Doesn't get much better when it comes to the goosefoot genus.
Goosefoot? You know, like beetroots, spinach, and tumbleweeds. Ah, tumbleweeds!
Okay, maybe I can do without quinoa for the next six months. Chocolate and wine are questionable.
Oh, wait! According to my nutritionist, I can have cocoa the second week of my new diet. Awesome! I have a bag of raw organic cadao/cocoa nibs I usually throw into my smoothies that will do in a pinch. Raw cadao nibs are a lot like quinoa; tiny, crunchy, no sugar, vaguely bitter. Yum!
By week four I can add cottage cheese, honey, rice, paprika, cucumbers, cranberry and pinto beans. I may go hog wild and just mix them all together and call it ‘Bean Bash Hash.’
Food has been the enemy for the last six months. Eating has been like playing Russian roulette given my sensitivities to multiple food groups. WTFudge! Soooooo, I’m back to ground zero (i.e. pablum) while I allow my body some much needed R&R before cooking up some kind of peace agreement that will foster good will between warring factions.
I'm good with diplomacy. I love a challenge. Besides, I’m not allowed to complain to my doctor, my nutritionist, or to Jimmy, which is obviously why I've dumped all over you this morning. Sooorrrrry!
I’m off to the grocery to buy the twelve items I can eat for the upcoming week. I can eat all I want when it comes to fresh chicken (nothing frozen, i.e. enhanced with chemicals and preservatives), fresh tuna, fresh pork, wheat (only wheat), millet?, buckwheat?, fresh spinach, fresh tomatoes, fresh apples, fresh blueberries, fresh strawberries. In other words, organic. Oh, and I can season any or all of those items with salt, pepper, oregano, mustard, lemon, or sugar (and only salt, pepper, oregano, mustard, lemon, and sugar); as in no cooking with butter, olive oil, canola oil, red wine vinegar, wine, garlic, onions, etc. Yum again!
Feel free to throw recipes my way that involve any combination of those twelve ingredients via firstname.lastname@example.org. And in appreciation, here are today's Fun Fotos!
In case you missed it last week, I've opened up Friday's Fun Fotos to all who might find a little humor they'd like to share. Send submissions to email@example.com.
