I know I’m incredibly tired. Airports can suck the life out of you if you linger too long. By design they’re bland and boring, obsessed with the task of herding passengers like cattle across the great plains of intent and means.
It could have been worse. We were warned as we boarded our plane in Denver (six hours after arriving at the airport) that our flight might be diverted due to bad weather once we arrived in the Chicago area. I’ve never been to Detroit, and I wanted to keep it that way.
My life didn’t flash before my eyes during our Chicago-Midway landing, but I did chew on my words a bit, the ones I like to toss around when confronted with my mortality: “I don’t want to outlive my expiration date. When the time comes, I’d like to just go down with the airplane, Jimmy at my side. Those last five minutes will suck, but it beats years of a slow demise.”
I still have a few good years left before demise sets in. Besides, I have to share my new perspective on Midway Airport; the one where I make lemonade out of the lemons that Old Man Winter and Lady Luck tossed our way.
No lemonade today. But I do have some Fun Fotos to share.
