Oh, wait! The sun had set just minutes before I’d stepped out into the cold a little over a week ago to marvel at the twin corncob towers piercing the night sky.
One detail in particular put the skyscraper on the map for me 35 years ago.
Remember the Paramount Pictures’ film, The Hunter?
Here’s the infamous chase scene that will leave your head spinning courtesy of Marina Towers.
The Hunter wasn’t McQueen’s best work, but the chase scene was memorable.
And speaking of memorable Marina Towers moments, did you see Nik Wallenda’s evening stroll between the Marina Towers a little over a year ago? On November 2, 2014, the seventh generation progeny of the famed Flying Wallendas circus family walked a tightrope stretched between the two towers while blindfolded; this after his first act involved walking a tightrope stretched across the Chicago River between the Windy City’s west Marina City tower and the Leo Burnett building, a difference in height resulting in a 19-degree angle of inclination.
Holy mother of mayhem! The guy is crazy!
Crazy had to be the view for a good number of residents of the famed Marina City towers with front row seats; that is if you can stomach the possibly of watching a crazy guy fall 543 feet to his death. I hate when that happens!
No catastrophes the night of my walk at Marina City either (certainly doesn't compare to Wallenda's) although my sister and I were crazy to think snapping a few pictures of Chicago dressed to the nines was a good idea on such a cold, blustery night. How could we say no to all that beautiful bling!
Fortunately, with age comes wisdom.
