CHICAGO CULTURAL CENTER OFFERS THE STUFF OF DREAMS

1/28/2016

Picture
Love the little people wandering through all the faint layers.
The faint layers that create the inside of the inside of the inside.

Whoa!  Are we now talking the flip side or have we gone over to the dark side?

Obviously I’d wandered into the deep end of the pool again; happens every time I visit Chicago’s Cultural Center.

Last time it was Shawn Decker’s surreal crickets chirping, insects buzzing, and rain falling urban forest experience; very peaceful New Age on the top floor of the Cultural Center.

This time it was . . .
. . .  stuff.

Mundane, mind-bending, everyday stuff devoted to depicting the spark of inspiration that feeds the seeds cultivated in the minds of architects searching for expression.

I warned you this ‘stuff’ was deep. Forgot to warn you my propensity for run on sentences.  My bad.

It was slow going winding my way through Sou Fujimoto’s “Architecture is Everywhere” exhibit.  My mind (and body) doesn’t always bend like it used to.
There was so much stuff!

Are all architects hoarders, or just Sou Fujimoto?

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I have my share of ‘stuff.’
Picture
Stuff that accumulates in my desk drawer;
Picture
IT IS THE FLOW OF AIR IN TIME AND ITS PACE, FAST OR SLOW, THAT WE CALL ARCHITECTURE. IT IS THE FLOW OF PEOPLE AND ITS EVER CHANGING NATURE THAT WE CALL FUNCTION. I'm having a difficult time functioning.
stuff that collects at the bottom of my purse;
Picture
GEOMETRY AND DISORDER. SIMPLE NESS AND COMPLEXITY. CLEARNESS AND INCOMPREHENSIBILITY. It's all clearly incomprehensible.
enough stuff to leave me feeling like I’m going around in circles when it comes to finding anything.

But hey!  Why sweat the small stuff.
Picture
ARE WALLS EXTENSIONS OF THE EARTH OR THAT OF THE TREES? I can't see the forest for the trees.
After all, isn’t that what dreams (and architecture) are made of?

Stuff.

That looked like a fun place for your off-the-wall comments.

Yes, indeed, plenty of material for 'unique' view of things.

Awesome place. Makes you think, doesn't it?

If I lived in Chicago, I'd be a regular visitor to the Cultural Center.
