FUN FOTO FRIDAY:   OUTTAKES FOR THE WEEK 10/31/16

11/4/2016

Isn’t it a refreshing news day?

Something truly amazing has actually preempted the vitriolic presidential campaigns that have dominated the news far too long.

On the slim chance you’ve been sequestered all week taking care of your civic duty or stranded on an island in the Pacific bemoaning the lack of cell towers, it behooves me to share the following epic news, courtesy of the front page of yesterday’s Chicago Tribune!
Picture
That’s right!  The Chicago Cubs fiiiiiinaaaaaly won the World Series, ending a 71-year National League pennant drought and a 108-year World Series championship drought, both of which are record droughts in Major League Baseball.

Holy Cow!  They did it Harry!

It seems only fitting today’s Fun Fotos highlight the Cubs.  I snatched some pictures from the Internet courtesy of Getty Images and added some of the best Cubs catch phrases and quotes from the history of the sport to provide a little humor.

FUN FOTO FRIDAY:  OUTTAKES FOR THE WEEK 9/12/16

9/16/2016

Earlier this morning Jimmy asked, “No more Fun Foto Fridays?”

Yes, it has been a while, hasn’t it?

Best I deliver some FUN today.

Here’s to Jimmy; to my best friend, my biggest fan, my husband of almost 20 years.
Picture
Seats don't get much better than this!
And while I’m at it, here’s to the Chicago Cubs.  This fan had a ton of fun at Wrigley Field today watching the 2016 Central Division champs (as of last night!) go ten innings before a crowd of 40,000 fans.  The Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5 to 4.   But I digress.

Dog gone it! This little guy is sooooooooo cute.
Today is all about this precious, precocious puppy.

Say hello to Apollo; and say thanks to extended family members Chris and Sarah for posting so many adorable pictures of their latest four-legged, furry family member.
Let the Fun roll!

FUN FOTO FRIDAY:  OUTTAKES FOR THE WEEK 8/01/16

8/5/2016

A few years back (as in a decade, give or take a few more years) while Jimmy was having an endoscopic exam as an outpatient just before Christmas, I passed the time creating origami.

Yes, if you haven’t perused my About page (why not?), in my former life I was a nerdy math teacher (and proud of it) enamored with the aesthetics of geometry, which at the time equated to one quite impressive (if I must say, and I must) Sonobe Ball that I then bequeathed to the nurses (tis the season) who’d taken such good care of my beloved that morning.
Picture
Many viruses, like the herpes virus, have the same icosahedral shaped shell. You don't say!
While I neglected to snap a picture of my creation for posterity sake/Facebook fame (ten years ago I was using a flip phone), the image above (you guessed it, an Internet special) is a close facsimile, although my version was created using 90 squares cut from wrapping paper sporting a holiday theme.
Picture
Doggone it! Isn't that the cutest thing you've ever seen by way of towels?
Needless to say, when this puppy showed up in my cabin during our recent cruise to Alaska, my little mathematical heart swelled with appreciation.

Every night when our steward turned down our bed, he left fresh towels folded into a new creation.  The appreciation escalated geometrically.  It was always tough showering the next day; Jimmy insisted.

The fella gets an A+ in my book.

And you get some Fun Fotos featuring the latest twist on this ancient art.

FUN FOTO FRIDAY:  OUTTAKES FOR THE WEEK 5/09/16

5/13/2016

Wow, not only is today Friday the 13th, but it’s also National Fruit Cocktail Day, National Blame Someone Else Day, National Frog Jumping Day, National Crouton Day, and National Apple Pie Day.

Good!  I don’t have to take the blame for the extra calories I plan on consuming today in the name of tradition.  In fact, I’ll even give up the croutons and the fruit cocktail and we can call it even.   After a slice of pie (a la mode, of course) I’ll sit in my rocker on the back porch and simply enjoy this beautiful spring day.  I’m thinking Mark Twain’s, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, might make a good read today.

Yes, I’m a lucky girl on this Friday the 13th; life is good. No paraskevidekatriaphobia for this momma!

You’re in luck, too.  It’s also Fun Foto Friday.  It's not a national day yet, but I’m working on it.

FUN FOTO FRIDAY:  OUTTAKES FOR THE WEEK 04/04/16

4/8/2016

It’s been tough stringing together two coherent thoughts this week (well, tougher than usual); hence no Thursday post.

Like a neon sign insistently flashing a single message, tooth #19 (I know far more than I ever wanted to know when it comes to odontology; for those of you lucky enough to have been spared this life lesson, odontology is the branch of science concerned with the anatomy, development and diseases of all 32 teeth and related structures) has been busy 24/7 flooding my information highway with the same annoying message – PAIN, PAIN, PAIN!

Enough already! My nerves are shot, literally and figuratively.

Alas, there is an end in sight! Later TODAY tooth #19 and I part ways.  Apparently the ingrate has little appreciation for the time and money I invested on her behalf over the last few years via two wonderfully entertaining (NOT!) root canals.

And speaking of wonderfully entertaining, I do have some Fun Fotos to share. Enjoy, while I keep my date with the doc.  He promised to take me to la-la land.  He knows how much I love to travel.

FUN FOTO FRIDAY:  OUTTAKES FOR THE WEEK 3/21/16

I love how little babies look like wise old sages; their soulful eyes speak volumes about the sanctity of life.  They are the masters of the universe, indeed the universe that now spins around their sun.

Spend time with these amazing creatures and know God is benevolent.

I had the pleasure of spending time yesterday with the youngest member of our family; Charlotte turned five months earlier this week. She’s all tender, fragile skin and rose-leaf softness that begs touch.  I couldn't help but want to kiss that softness, smell her precious wonder in every fat fold, in every delicate finger and toe.

She’s such a good listener, too. In this age of distractions, she knows how to focus on what’s important.  I have much to learn from this adorable little bunny.

Which reminds me; Easter is right around the corner. I don’t know about you, but I plan to rejoice and be glad.  I also plan to share a few Fun Fotos.

FUN FOTO FRIDAY:  OUTTAKES FOR THE WEEK 3/14/16

3/18/2016

The really amazing thing about spring isn’t all the new life that turns gray to green, but rather the hope that turns gray to gay.

Hope for the Flowers (what a beautiful book for young and old alike!); hope for humanity.

Alas, all the hope stopped short of the current political landscape. Two out of three ain’t bad.

Today’s Fun Fotos ain’t bad either.

Here’s to spring! It's official this Sunday, fine-ahhhh-ly!   We can only hope Mother Nature got the memo.

FUN FOTO FRIDAY:  OUTTAKES FOR THE WEEK 2/29/16

3/4/2016

Yum! Today is National Pound Cake Day.  As in mix, bake, and then enjoy a pound of flour, a pound of butter, a pound of eggs and a pound of sugar transformed into pure deliciousness.

The pound of fat on my midriff, hips and thighs?  Not so delicious.  Thankfully National Pound Cake Day only comes around once a year.

I don’t bake much now that it’s just Jimmy and me. I will eat the entire pound cake rather than waste food.  You know the childhood drill: starving children in Africa; nasty vegetables on the dinner plate growing colder by the minute.  To this day, I still have a tendency to lick my plate at the end of a meal.  Licking the beaters and the mixing bowl are a standard practice, too.

It’s also standard practice on this blog to offer Fun Fotos on Fridays.  Deliciousness minus the calories.  Woo hoo!

FUN FOTO FRIDAY:  OUTTAKES FOR THE WEEK 2/01/16

2/5/2016

My heart aches for him when I’m two thousand miles away; and aches when we share a hug.  His frail frame, once greater than any of my childhood fears, is a shadow of the man who stood between me and harm’s way all those years ago.

My father turned 91 earlier this week.  The celebration was modest, much like the man.  The milestone included a 12-hour ER visit with the usual middle-of-the-night run.  Needless to say, Florida has more than its fair share of elderly.

Why is it in His infinite wisdom, the shelf life of our individual body parts are all over the board?  This too shall pass, as will the lot of us, sooner or later.  Whatever!

I’m going rogue for today’s Fun Fotos.  No photos; just a few ‘Small Thoughts’ courtesy of my good friend Joan.  She prefaced her gift with her own thoughts.  Some of these are “so you.”   She knows me too well.

Enjoy!  I know I did.

1/29/2016

Alleluia!  The sun is shining; the temperature is soaring; well, soaring by Chicago standards!  Tomorrow a high of 45 is expected.  Woo hoo!

Life is good!  So good, I’m off to make the most of it, but not before delivering the latest Fun Fotos.  If cloudy is the forecast where you are, today’s post should at least deliver some sunshine.

Thanks again to adorable newly-wed family members Sarah and Chris (and to their adorable cats; adorable obviously runs in the family) for providing the raw material for today’s memes.
