 7 ADMITTEDLY WEAK REASONS TO SAY GOODBYE TO A TROPICAL PARADISE

2/5/2015

My father thinks I’m crazy.  We just celebrated his 90th birthday.  What does he know?

My sister, with whom I’ve spent the last five weeks in sunny Florida, acknowledges I’ve every right to be homesick.

Yes, me, the Travelista, the one hoping to sell my empty nest and travel the world minus the trappings of a house and home, is longing for said Chicago home, even if that home comes with grey skies, three feet of snow, and the icy tendrils of single digit temperatures; because home is where Jimmy awaits my return.

Yes, love makes fools of us all.

Is it foolish, in the dead of winter, to give up palm trees and warm ocean breezes;

endless blue skies filled with white, puffy clouds;

all that glorious color?

Was it foolish when the British monarch, Edward VIII, voluntarily renounced the throne in 1936 so he could marry the love of his life?

I’m convinced I made the right choice, notwithstanding the only throne I'll ever know is of the porcelain variety.  I give you my 7 REASONS TO GIVE UP A TROPICAL PARADISE.  Am I crazy?

1.  My father was right - I'm crazy!  Crazy about my guy. If that means life in Chicago, then so be it.

I also have grandchild living in the Chicago area!
2.  Sunshine is so overrated.   Ever hear of melanoma?

Even the lily pads are getting too much sun.
3.   No habla espanol; although Miami is a good place to learn Spanish.

4.   Even a steady diet of paradise occasionally requires a change of scenery.

Just the right amount of color, right!?
5.   Have you seen the size of the reptiles roaming Miami and environs?
Picture
I'm green with envy. NOT!
6.   The humidity and my hair just don’t mix.

Not me, but close.
7.  My hay fever demanded some much needed down time.

Ah, choo! Please bless me. I know I'm crazy.

Time to go where your heart is. You've been a great sister & daughter.

You know all about the sacrifices we make for our family. I miss my sister, though, already. Never know when it will be my last visit with my dad.

I am so happy you are back where your heart is. (at least for now). I missed you but that sounds selfish so I will say I truly am glad you could spend time with your family down south. They need you too.
You had to show those beautiful pictures in our dead of winter didn't you?!

Yes, it's Paradise Lost! The pictures will get us through the worst of it over the next few months. Great to be home.
